Casa Vieja is Open for Business. Come up to Ciales, Puerto Rico.

What an experience! After seeing the Restaurant in Anthony Bourdain Part Unknown I said to myself I must visit this place. The flavor of the food is genuine, like grandma’s cooking. During my visit it was a slow day, so I had the chance to talk a lot with The Owner, this made my experience even better. A mandatory stop when visiting Puerto Rico. I recommend “bolitas de mofongo”(rounded plantain mofongo), Pastel and “pernil al caldero” roasted pork o a pot, and of course, the Mojitos!

I’ve been to many chinchorros but this one is really special. After a few stops at other locations with obnoxiously loud regetton, this was a piece of heaven. I was told that the general manager asked some people playing super loud music in front of their parking lot to lower the music or keep going. That’s how much they care about their patrons having a nice, authentic experience. The crowd is mixed but everyone seems to enjoy the music and the ambiance. Some people were taking pictures of the decor and the amazing views. Mojitos are to die for. The menu is very limited but everything was delicious. A little far but trust the other reviews, it’s worth it.
